Truth about modern medicine

Did you ever consider before taking taking any medicine/drugs prescribed by
your physician can be pretty harmful to you and to your family even life threatening sometimes?

Yes you should think twice before poping those anti-depressants or anti-diabetes drugs which are being pushed by large pharmaceutical companies at the cost of consumers health.

Guess what if you find that many big pharma companies are lied to their consumers about how superior their drugs are while in fact  these drugs are dangerous products.

Don't believe it, then consider this recent lawsuit which resulted in a fine of $3billion to the British based multi national drug company GlaxoSmithkline had to pay to settle criminal charges for:

-- Forcing and incentivising doctors to push their untested unsafe antidepressant meds, Paxil and Wellburtin and many more to their patients

-- Hiding key facts and findings about certain safety issues with their anti-diabetes drug Avandia.
Well guess what they don't tell these meds can cause heart disease.

-- Unlawful or misleading marketing tactics

-- Hiding key details form  US Food and Drug Administration  manipulating drug safety standards

-- Incentivising doctors with gifts, vacations so that they recommend these drugs without educating their patients about the possible harmful effects

This is just one example when a multi national drug company was held accountable and they had to pay the price, a big one. This story doesn't stop here, everyday they judicial system is cracking many cases with falsifying data and using unfair practices.

-- Pfizer another large pharma company has been found conspiring to prevent low cost generic versions of a cholesterol-lowering drug (Lipitor) to come to market.

-- In US there has been many cases when children died or suffered badly after being giving vaccines, and it has been claimed by ex-employees of those pharma companies that data was falsified.

The actual scenario is even more gory that we can imagine though, even it is true that many large pharma companies had been accused and payed huge fines but many get there way through daily.

No one from these companies ever gets detained or has been sent to jail and worst these companies still continue to operate.

They are good in finding loopholes in government machinery to get there way out and it seems easy when your pockets run deep real deep.

You must be wondering what is the point in discussing misdeeds by these companies, why should you bother? Is'nt it we all need these medicines when most of our population is falling sick day in day out.

Exactly, that is my point. Why do we need these medicines which are being pushed by these money hungry pharma comps, when they do not actually care about our health.

In modern times most of the population are suffering from chronic illness which is shift from the biggest killer of earlier days i.e. infections.

Chronic illness like obesity, diabetes, and cancer (to name a few) is affecting majority portion of our population. You won't have to look hard to find someone who suffers from one or other chronic illness in your family.

So what we have are these medicines which do cures you to some extent if you are lucky enough not to develop some other issue but in truth the best way to deal with these is PREVENTION.

In modern times we have been so focused with cure that we totally forgot we can prevent all of these at the first place. One main reason is the availability of pills and drugs which claims to cure you.

Very few lifestyle changes can save most of us from almost all the chronic diseases which are rampant now a days.

To name a few changes are, probably you have heard about them a lot but yes they are the most effective:
- Healthy Diet (If possible vegetarian - I will write another post why being can save your life)
- Abstain from drugs (recreation and prescribed both)
- Stop Smoking
- Give up alcohol

While there is never a guarantee in life, if you eat well- balanced and nutritious meals, using real, fresh food and not processed, prepared products, you can reduce your risks of chronic disease.

If you combine nutrition with regular exercise, you can reduce your risk of disease even more.

I'm not suggesting everyone should be an Olympics-class athlete, but I am suggesting everyone could reduce their risk by increasing their physical activity level!

Also, minimizing if not totally eliminating alcohol, tobacco and other drug use can also significantly reduce your chances of chronic disease.

By doing all these things, you can also reduce the necessity of taking the various drugs and medications - from those companies that may have their profits and their bottom lines more in mind than you and your health!

Another big lie is that these drugs and medications are all you have to do to be "cured."

Taking an anti-depressant can be very helpful, but you still have to deal with the factors that caused the depression!

Taking a blood pressure medication may reduce your blood pressure and decrease your risk of heart disease, but if you don't deal with your weight, your sedentary lifestyle,
your alcohol or tobacco consumption, or your stress levels, the drugs may only be delaying the results of those choices.

My point here is that we've been taught that the answer to all our health problems lie in a prescription bottle. And, sometimes they do!

For those cures, I applaud all the hard work that has gone into the research and development of those drugs.

But, if that's our only approach, it is likely doomed to failure because it is not going after the root cause of the health problem.

We don't always know the exact cause, but we sure have a pretty good clue that; for example, a stressful lifestyle combined with obesity, no exercise, smoking and drinking
are a significant factor in heart disease.

So, next time you are given a prescription, just make absolutely certain you need it and that there is not a better alternative!
